Kadapa district police in Andhra Pradesh have taken delivery of a mobile forensic vehicle designed to support scientific evidence collection at crime scenes, officials said Tuesday. The vehicle, sanctioned by the Andhra Pradesh Forensic Science Laboratory (APFSL), is equipped with a range of tools intended to strengthen crime investigation and evidence‑based policing in the district.
According to the police, the mobile unit includes high‑intensity lighting, preliminary blood‑testing and collection kits, DNA sample kits, and screening kits for narcotics and explosives. A stereo microscope is also installed for identifying and examining trace evidence. In addition, the vehicle houses a DSLR camera, a CCTV/dashboard camera, a digital investigation kit, a forensic imager, and storage devices such as pen drives, memory cards and solid‑state drives. Facilities for the acquisition and imaging of digital devices are part of the onboard equipment.
“This facility will enable the investigating officials and forensic personnel to systematically document crime scenes and preserve both the physical and the digital evidence,” said Nachiket Vishwanath Shelke after inspecting the vehicle’s features.
The deployment marks the first acquisition of such a mobile forensic platform by Kadapa district police, officials added, though they did not specify the number of similar units in other districts. The vehicle is expected to be used for on‑site forensic analysis, allowing investigators to conduct preliminary tests without waiting for laboratory turnaround.
Police officials indicated that the mobile unit will be dispatched to crime scenes across the district as needed, providing rapid access to forensic capabilities that were previously limited to stationary labs. The inclusion of both physical evidence kits and digital imaging tools reflects an effort to address the growing complexity of modern investigations, which often involve electronic devices alongside traditional crime‑scene material.
The APFSL, which sanctioned the vehicle, oversees forensic services for the state and has been expanding its capacity to support law‑enforcement agencies with advanced technology.
