Russian airstrikes killed nine people and injured dozens across Ukraine on Saturday, damaging energy infrastructure and civilian targets as Kyiv prepares for severe winter conditions amid escalating long-range attacks.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated on Telegram that Russian forces launched nearly 500 drones against targets nationwide beginning early Saturday morning. The strikes affected multiple regions, including Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Zhytomyr, Donetsk, and Odesa.
In Kramatorsk, local city council officials reported that Russian forces attacked civilian vehicles in three separate incidents over a 90-minute window, killing three people. In Zviahel, located in the Zhytomyr region west of Kyiv, Regional Governor Vitaliy Bunechko said a strike on a grocery store killed two people, while two petrol stations were also targeted.
Casualties were also reported in southeastern and southern Ukraine. Zaporizhzhia Regional Governor Ivan Fedorov confirmed two deaths and 11 injuries from attacks in his jurisdiction. In the Odesa region, Governor Oleh Kiper reported that overnight strikes injured 37 people, including an infant, while two individuals remain missing. Russia’s Ministry of Defence acknowledged ongoing strikes against Ukrainian southern ports, asserting that Russian forces struck a cargo vessel in Odesa that Moscow claimed was transporting military supplies.
Ukrainian Economy Minister Oleksandr Kravchenko reported that direct damage to infrastructure and fixed assets from Russian airstrikes is estimated at nearly $10 billion this year. Kravchenko added that airstrikes and the de facto blockage of Ukraine’s Black Sea ports have reduced the nation’s gross domestic product growth by 1.5 percentage points.
Both military forces have increasingly targeted logistics networks and economic targets. For more than two weeks, Moscow has deployed faster jet-powered drones against Kyiv, disrupting municipal operations and business activities. Meanwhile, Ukrainian forces have launched long-range strikes against energy facilities and warehouses inside Russia, alongside targeting commercial shipping routes.
The aerial activity briefly spilled across international borders on Saturday. Moldovan authorities temporarily closed the country’s national airspace for nearly an hour and shut seven border crossings after a drone was detected near the border with Ukraine.
In diplomatic developments, Zelenskyy indicated in an interview released Saturday that he would be willing to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin at the G20 summit in Miami scheduled for Dec. 14–15, 2026. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov rejected the proposal, reiterating Moscow’s position that any bilateral meeting must take place in the Russian capital.
