Indian Appliance Manufacturers Prepare Third Price Hike of 2026 Amid Rising Input Costs

Date:

Indian electronics manufacturers are set to implement a third round of price hikes this year, raising home appliance prices by 5 to 8 percent starting October 1, according to industry executives and reports cited by Press Trust of India.

The price increases come as manufacturers pass on rising input costs for key raw materials—including copper, steel, and crude derivatives—alongside currency exchange volatility linked to ongoing conflict in West Asia. Kanwaljeet Jawa, Chairman and Managing Director of Daikin Airconditioning India, noted that copper prices alone have surged by 25 to 35 percent, driven further by a strengthening U.S. dollar and broader commodity inflation.

Various major manufacturers have already begun adjusting retail prices or outlining upcoming schedules across product lines. Blue Star Managing Director B Thiagarajan confirmed that prices for air conditioners and deep freezers have risen by 5 to 8 percent. Sources reported by PTI indicated that LG and Bosch Home Comfort, which manufactures Hitachi-branded air conditioners, have similarly increased air conditioner prices by approximately 5 percent.

Haier India President NS Satish detailed a structured timeline for price adjustments, noting that the company plans an initial 5 percent hike on room air conditioners starting October 1, alongside a 2 to 3 percent increase across other categories such as LED televisions and washing machines. Satish projected a cumulative price increase of roughly 15 percent between now and January, with potential further adjustments following Diwali and in early 2027 if input expenses continue to climb.

“If we avoid taking price hikes, we will lose money. If we increase prices, sales may be slightly impacted, but there is no choice,” Satish stated, adding that while price increases of 5 to 7 percent across product categories are necessary, exact timing will vary by brand through October and November.

The report noted that the immediate retail impact of the announcements may be partially mitigated in the near term. Dealers and distributors accumulated inventory at earlier price points through pre-buying schemes throughout August and September, creating a stock pipeline expected to last one to one-and-a-half months before higher post-Diwali pricing fully takes effect across consumer markets.

In contrast to competitors moving forward with price adjustments, Panasonic stated that it is currently evaluating market conditions before making a formal decision regarding product pricing.
