Prashant Kishor has criticized Bihar BJP chief Nitin Nabin over his recent donation to the Bihar Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for flood relief, describing the move as an image-building exercise rather than a comprehensive solution to the state’s severe flooding crisis.
Nabin had announced on Friday that he was donating Rs 6.35 lakh, representing three months of his salary as a Member of Parliament, to assist in flood relief efforts. However, Kishor stated that public leaders should not utilize relief efforts during a tragedy to project their personal image. Pointing to the central leadership of the party, Kishor said Nabin should also contribute directly from the BJP’s institutional party funds, which Kishor asserted exceed Rs 30,000 crore.
Kishor, who serves as the MLA for Bankipur—a constituency previously represented by Nabin—called on top leadership to address the crisis structurally. He reminded Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah of their past electoral promises to permanently address Bihar’s recurring deluge and said he expected expressions of sympathy from the central leadership for those affected by the ongoing disaster.
The political dispute comes as Bihar contends with widespread disaster across multiple regions. Severe flooding has affected nearly 49.72 lakh people across 15 districts, with Patna, Bhojpur, Saran, Vaishali, Bhagalpur, Begusarai, and Buxar reported among the most severely impacted areas. Major rivers, including the Ganga, Kosi, Punpun, Budhi Gandak, Bagmati, and Ghaghara, have been flowing above designated danger levels at several locations. In response, state administrative authorities have established 303 community kitchens and seven relief camps providing shelter and sustenance to approximately 9,003 people.
Addressing separate political developments regarding preparations for upcoming legislative contests, Kishor noted that a press conference would take place on Sunday to reveal candidates supported by Jan Suraaj. The state is approaching elections for eight seats in the Bihar Legislative Council representing Teachers and Graduates constituencies, where current terms are set to end on November 16.
