Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay’s official visit to the United Kingdom has secured over ₹12,300 crore in investment commitments, expected to create more than 9,400 jobs across the state. The investment push aims to position Tamil Nadu as a leading hub for advanced manufacturing in Asia.
The largest portion of the commitments comes from auto component manufacturer Samvardhana Motherson International, which pledged ₹11,000 crore to establish integrated design, engineering, manufacturing, assembly, and logistics facilities in various locations across the state. The Motherson project alone is projected to generate nearly 7,000 employment opportunities in advanced engineering and supply chain operations.
Professional services firm Ernst & Young (EY) committed ₹1,000 crore to establish a Global Capability Centre in Tamil Nadu, a move expected to create more than 2,000 high-value jobs.
In the electrical manufacturing sector, UK-based power equipment producer Wilson Power Solutions signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to invest ₹300 crore in a new manufacturing plant in Tiruvallur district. The facility is expected to generate approximately 400 local jobs. The agreement was signed by Wilson Power Solutions Group Technical Director Hari Krishna Malepathy and Group Finance Director Dennis Sorby, along with Deepak Jacob, Managing Director of Guidance Tamil Nadu.
Additionally, Sweden-based Sigma Technology Group is expanding its footprint in the state, further developing its technology and digital services operations. The Tamil Nadu government stated it has assured the company of necessary administrative support and cooperation to facilitate its operations.
During the visit, representatives from the Hinduja Group also briefed the Chief Minister on the progress of their ongoing projects in the state, specifically discussing steps being taken under a ₹2,500 crore MoU signed during the Vettri Tamil Nadu Investors’ Conclave held in Chennai in August.
The official trip drew political commentary in Tamil Nadu. Opposition party DMK criticized the Chief Minister’s UK visit, claiming it was undertaken to attend a car race involving actor Ajith. Officials from Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), defended the international trip, stating it was aimed at promoting “Brand Tamil Nadu” and securing industrial development for the state.
