Breaking GHMC Establishes 16 SIR Help Desks to Assist Voters With Enumeration Forms

Date:

Breaking News — updating as confirmed details emerge

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has opened 16 new Service Integration and Registration (SIR) help desks across the city to aid residents in completing the voter enumeration form required for the upcoming elections, officials said.

The desks, located in various neighborhoods, are staffed by municipal officials who will provide on‑site assistance, answer queries and help voters verify their details before submitting the form. The initiative aims to streamline the voter registration process and reduce errors that could delay the inclusion of eligible citizens on the electoral roll.

“These desks are intended to make it easier for people, especially senior citizens and those unfamiliar with the digital process, to correctly fill out the enumeration form,” a GHMC spokesperson told The Hindu. “Our staff will guide voters through each step and ensure that the information submitted is accurate.”

The move comes as the Election Commission of India urges local bodies to facilitate voter registration ahead of the general elections scheduled for later this year. GHMC officials said the help desks will operate during regular municipal office hours and will be equipped with computers and printed forms.

Analysis: By deploying dedicated help desks, GHMC is addressing logistical challenges that have historically hindered voter registration in dense urban areas. The focus on in‑person assistance may help mitigate low digital literacy and reduce the backlog of incomplete or erroneous submissions. However, the effectiveness of the desks will depend on public awareness of their locations and the capacity of municipal staff to handle potentially high demand, especially in densely populated wards.
