Scientists have identified a previously underappreciated mechanism—alternate RNA decoding—that can dramatically alter peptide sequences, leading to more stable and abundant proteins across mammalian tissues. The research team examined ribosomal decoding events that diverge from the canonical genetic code, resulting in the incorporation of non‑standard amino acids or the substitution of canonical ones at specific codons.
