Vinicius Jr goal disallowed for Brazil against Scotland after VAR review

Date:

Brazil winger Vinicius Junior had a goal disallowed in his team’s international friendly against Scotland due to a foul in the build-up play, with the referee requiring a VAR review to make the final decision.

The match, which took place at Hampden Park in Glasgow, saw Brazil attack the Scottish goal in the first half when Vinicius latched onto a through ball. After coolly controlling the ball inside the penalty area, the 23-year-old appeared poised to score, but the goal was quickly disallowed following a VAR intervention.

The referee initially allowed the goal to stand before being advised to review the move by the video assistant referee. Upon re-examining the build-up play, the official identified a foul committed by Vinicius in the lead-up to the goal attempt, resulting in the strike being wiped out.

Brazil went on to secure a 2-0 victory in the match, with goals from other players securing the win despite the disallowed effort from Vinicius.

The result moves Brazil further up the FIFA rankings ahead of upcoming fixtures, while Scotland will look to build on individual performances in future encounters.
