Breaking UGC-NET Re-Test Ordered for Three Papers Amid Printing Errors and Candidate Concerns

Date:

Breaking News — updating as confirmed details emerge

The National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by the University Grants Commission (UGC) has been marred by printing errors in three question papers, prompting the testing agency to order a re-test for affected candidates.

The errors were identified in the December 2025 UGC-NET examination papers for papers II, III, and V, which are conducted simultaneously. According to officials, the mistakes included incorrect questions being printed and technical errors in the question papers that could have affected candidates’ ability to answer them properly.

The UGC announced on Tuesday that a separate examination will be conducted for candidates who appeared for these three papers, while the other 84 papers in the series will not be re-conducted. The testing agency stated that the re-test will be held at the same testing centers and on the same schedule as the original examination, with results from the re-test being merged with other data for rank determination.

Candidate concerns have mounted following the announcement, with many expressing worry about the additional preparation time required and the potential impact on their career trajectories. Several candidates took to social media to voice their concerns about the disruption to their exam schedules and the uncertainty surrounding the re-test logistics.

The UGC has instructed all affected candidates to report to their respective testing centers for the re-test, which will follow the same security protocols and time slots as the original examination. The testing agency has also advised candidates to bring their original admit cards and identification documents to the re-test.

The December 2025 UGC-NET examination was conducted in multiple phases across various subjects to assess eligibility for lectureship positions and Junior Research Fellowships in Indian universities and colleges.
