In its verdict, the High Court rejected Tejpal’s defence arguments claiming the allegations were part of an extortion attempt or character assassination, emphasizing his position of authority over the victim.
The legal proceedings in the case span over a decade. Tejpal was initially arrested in November 2013 and spent several weeks in custody before being released on bail. The case proceeded to trial before the Additional Sessions Court at Mapusa, which acquitted Tejpal of all charges in May 2021, ruling that the prosecution had failed to establish guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
