Police in Hyderabad have apprehended two Class 10 students in connection with the murder of school principal Roopa Reddy. Investigators allege the students attacked Reddy with a knife, inflicting 27 stab wounds, after she discovered one of the juveniles stealing from her residence.
According to police reports, the investigation gained momentum when authorities observed the juveniles engaging in lavish spending shortly after the crime. The financial activity, which included the purchase of high-end electronics such as an iPhone valued at ₹1.51 lakh, served as a primary lead for investigators.
Forensic evidence played a critical role in linking the suspects to the crime scene. Forensic examinations conducted on cash recovered from one of the students revealed traces of blood, providing a direct physical connection to the victim.
The breakthrough in the case was also attributed to a final telephone call made by the victim. The call, during which the word “babu” was recorded, provided investigators with essential clues that helped identify the suspects. The two juveniles have since been produced before the authorities as the investigation continues.
Analysis:
The case highlights a significant escalation in violent crime involving minors, where the motive appears to be a combination of theft and the subsequent attempt to conceal the crime through the liquidation of stolen assets. The transition from a theft to a lethal assault suggests a high level of premeditation or a desperate attempt to eliminate a witness. Furthermore, the ability of the juveniles to immediately convert stolen property into luxury consumer goods underscores the challenges law enforcement faces in tracking the rapid movement of illicit funds in digital and high-value retail environments.
